MEET THE STAFF
BRIAN CHUNG: Intern - brian.gw.chung@gmail.com
I'm a 22 year old Chinese-American, USC Alumni, INFJ, and an aspiring Entrepreneur and social media guy. I was born and raised in Oahu, Hawaii. I now live in South Pasadena, work at a start-up company, and am in the phases of starting a venture on my own. I came into college as a non-believer excited to do "college things" that I saw in movies. However, God had other plans for me. InterVarsity invited me into a God investigation group where I learned about Jesus. The summer afterwards, I decided to commit to following Him. Ever since then, I have been involved in InterVarsity and seek to see USC transformed by God. I am passionate about art and business. I love creating websites, blogging, watching movies, and staying up late playing games with friends. Check out my website: www.thelegacymovement.com or you can also follow me twitter.com/brianchung.
BEN VAIL: Intern - benvail62@gmail.com
I grew up in a Christian home (shout out to the 714!) but didn't really take my faith seriously (or call it my own) until my senior year of high school. I spent that year asking tough questions and searching on my own for the answers. It was the words "they will have free IN&OUT" that first brought me to InterVarsity my freshman year in college. That began a four year journey of growing in deeper faith, community and my understanding of who God is. I am nowhere near what I used to be like as a college freshman, and I give God all of the glory for that!
I'm engaged to marry a beautiful woman (I'm definitely the lucky one), and absolutely looking forward to a year of seeking what God is up to at USC. I love meeting up with people over coffee. Yes, that is an offer - take me up on it! I am a huge Dodgers & LA Kings fan (you can imagine that the last world series was tough for me), and love to play poker, basketball, baseball and tennis. I'm also a huge fan of jazz, so hit me up if you are too! | STEVE MARKS: Team Leader - stevemarks@gmail.com
This is my ninth year on staff with InterVarsity here at USC. I grew up in Nor Cal, and though I was involved in church, I hid areas of my life from people and from God. It wasn't until I began taking Jesus seriously in college that I realized I was being invited into something way bigger and better than I ever had known. He's been wooing me more and more ever since.
I live with my wife Larissa and newborn son Aaron a few blocks away from campus. There's nothing I like more than a good, deep conversation (particularly over a quality cup of coffee), connecting with people, and hearing their stories. That said, I'm also a sucker for most kinds of games (mafia, anyone?), I love tech blogs online, and I really enjoy training for and running long-distance races. Oh, and when my son looks at me and yells da-DEEE! ... that's just about the best thing ever. TIM LEE: Volunteer - wonho.lee@gmail.com
While in college, I visited several Christian fellowships in search of the right one. InterVarsity drew me in by their sense of community in reaching out to others, studying the word, and ministering to one another.
I graduated in 2007 and I started working at the Korean Studies Institute at USC in 2009 . While I was involved with InterVarsity in college and offered some volunteer help after graduation, I felt a nudge by God at IV missions conference Urbana09 to revisit the possibility of joining the IV staff team at USC. There are several TV shows that I love to watch including Phineas and Ferb, Breaking Bad, and Community. Somehow, I also have a revived passion from my adolescent days in pro wrestling. And with enough free time and inspiration, I like making parodies of songs and pictures, short movies and slide shows, mainly with MS Paint, Windows Movie Maker and Photo Story. Most people remember me by the several different Five Iron Frenzy shirts I wear when I'm not at work. WELEY LAI: Intern - weleylai@gmail.com
Hi there! Just a little bit about myself: I was born in Taiwan but moved to SoCal when I was a month old and grew up in Chino Hills, CA. I graduated from UC Irvine in 2010 with a BA in Criminology and I currently live in South L.A.
I became a Christian in high school but it was in college that I really began to take my faith journey seriously and actively follow Jesus. Through my involvement with InterVarsity, I experienced God in new ways. He led me into challenging places and made me re-think the things I believed in. By the end of college, I was a different person. I developed a passion to see college students changed by God and on a larger scale, to see God transform our broken world. Because of this, I decided to come on as an Intern Staff with InterVarsity at USC. For me, there's nothing better than being able to hang with friends (old and new) and get deep (or joke around), swap stories and enjoy each other's company. I love sports and I'm a huge Lakers, Chargers, and to a lesser degree, Angels fan. I also love movies and I like all kinds of music, but I especially enjoy Hip-Hop and R&B.
