IGNITE - Word and Power
Every fall since 2005, InterVarsity’s “back-to-campus” Ignite evangelism conference has brought together hundreds of college students from Fresno to San Diego to be equipped for witness on their campuses. Sponsored by the Southern California Region of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Ignite 2011: Word and Power will call us to engage the God who not only reveals Himself to us, but reveals Himself through us. We invite you to join us for a day to be inspired to faith, called to mission, and equipped to witness. Registration fee incudes conference entry, light breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Saturday, September 10, 2011 9AM - 8PM Cost: $25/person before Sept 8th $30/person after $30 non-student fee Location: Bel Air Presbyterian Church, 16221 Mulholland Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90049 Speakers: Ryan Pfeiffer, Director for IV in San Diego Abner Ramos, IV Director for LaFe ministries Greater Los Angeles WORKSHOPS:
There will be two time slots to attend workshops during the conference: 1:15pm and 2:45pm. These workshops are designed to equip you to share your faith with those around you. Be sure to indicate which workshops you’d like to attend on your registration form. How to Present the Gospel Learn how to communicate the gospel story in a way that is simple, clear, and uses language and concepts that unchurched people can relate to easily. Get equipped with a powerful and essential tool for sharing your faith. Scripture and Witness To many of your friends who don’t yet know Jesus, the Bible seems like a dusty old book read and studied by people who are either extremely old, a little “Religiously-freaky”, or enrolled in some class they have to take to graduate. But the Bible is actually one of the best places for you to help your friends see and encounter the person and power of Christ. This workshop will be extremely hands on as you learn how to guide your friends through scripture into a powerful encounter with Christ. Post-modern Apologetics How do you address the questions people have about God and Christianity in way that is relevant and meaningful? We’ll look at different approaches to popular questions as well ways that we can help develop curiosity. Listening Prayer and Witness One of the best ways that we can become more effective in our witness is by learning how to hear from God and follow his lead in the midst of our evangelistic efforts. This workshop will help you learn how to practice listening prayer and how to partner with the Holy Spirit as you engage in witness. The 5 Thresholds of Conversion By interviewing dozens of new Christians and their friends who helped them enter the Kingdom, a group of InterVarsity staff discovered that people today need to cross not 1 but 5 thresholds of faith to become followers of Jesus. This workshop will introduce you to this tool, and I believe you will also experience, as I have, much greater freedom and joy in your life as a witness of Jesus. Discipling New Believers Your friend has just decided to follow Jesus! Now what? New believers need to be taught how to be disciples but where do you start? This workshop will equip you with practical steps you can take to help your friends flourish in their newfound faith. Worship & Witness Learn how your chapter can use musical worship and worship events to reach unchurched students and help them become open to God. Praying in Word & Power for Your Campus Tired of dry, stale prayer meetings? Want to learn how to intercede for your campus? This workshop will equip you to develop dynamic, Spirit led, times of corporate intercession for your campus. Proclaiming the Gospel in Word & Power on Urban Commuter Campuses Are you on an urban commuter campus? Don’t miss this workshop. Come and learn some key principles for growing thriving chapters on urban commuter campuses from staff at East Los Angeles College and Cal State Los Angeles. Starting Spiritual Conversations How is it possible to initiate a conversation about Jesus and have it be powerful and not akward? How can you become a person who leads people to the Lord from absolutely normal conversations? If you would love to become this person or are this person but want to sharpen your skill, this is the group for you! Healing Prayer & Witness The New Testament is full of stories of conversions that were accompanied by physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. This workshop will equip you in the basics of healing prayer and how to pray for healing with non-Christians. Telling Your Story Witness invites us to tell the story of God’s work in our life–whether it be the story of how we first came to faith or one that captures why we remain faithful to Jesus. In this workshop, we will work on writing and telling our stories and testimonies in a compelling way to challenge our friends to seek God in their own life. Tools for Cross-Cultural Witness Jesus commands us to be witnesses to people of different cultures than our own. Come and get equipped with a new study series designed to be used with Latino students that can be adapted to be used with students from different cultural backgrounds. |
